Amos excited by new era

Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos is embracing the club's new era and admits he was “delighted” to play 90 minutes in the Reds’ first pre-season friendly under David Moyes.

The former Everton boss handed Amos a start against a Singha All Star XI in Bangkok last Saturday and the 23-year-old didn’t disappoint. Although United lost the match 1-0, Amos impressed hugely, particularly with one point-blank save just before the half-time interval.
“It was probably up there with the best saves I’ve made,” Amos told ManUtd.com before revealing what the mood is currently like inside the Reds’ camp.
“It’s an exciting time to be in the squad,” he said. “Everybody’s fighting for their places and places are up for grabs. You can see in training people are giving something more. I wouldn’t say they’re trying harder because everybody always gives their all, but everybody can see there’s an opportunity and people are determined to grab it.
“Considering what big changes have gone on at the club – and we have seen massive changes – I think it’s been a pretty smooth transition.
“The backroom team that’s come in has merged with the staff that was already here and it’s been pretty seamless. There are a few things that are done differently but I think everybody’s adapted to it quite quickly.”
Indeed, Amos is now working under former England goalkeeper Chris Woods, having been coached for the last five years by Eric Steele.
 “Steeley was great and he was a big personality around the place. Chris is a different style of coach and that’s not to say he’s any better or worse – he’s just different, and that was always bound to be the case.
“He has different methods and different ways of working. Personally, I’ve really enjoyed the training. It’s been tough but enjoyable at the same time. I can’t wait for more of it.
“I was delighted to get some game time in the Bangkok game. The first half I was a lot busier in the second but I was just happy to go out and do my thing. Hopefully I impressed.”
